Annals of oncologySummary: Circulating cell free Tumour DNA (CCf DNA) or Circulating tumour DNA(CtDNA) is the DNA shed by the tumour cells into blood. Being in systemic circulation, liquid biopsies can capture and sequence these tumour derived CCf DNA and reconstruct genomics without needing tumour biopsy. This method being simple, easier and safer, has great potential for genomic profiling and understanding tumour progression. CtDNA addresses tumour heterogeneity and find clinically relevant mutations stemming from subclonal tumour populations, has potential for monitoring response to therapy and detecting emerging tumor resistant mutations. It may help obtain the genetic follow-up data and status in cancer patients during the course of disease.
